LASIK is a two step procedure. A flap of corneal tissue is created then the underlying tissue is reshaped with a laser. IntraLASIK is when the flap is made with a laser instead of a blade. Dr. Mozayeni is the first and most experienced cornea specialist in the region to offer IntraLASIK. IntraLASIK has proven itself to be safer and more precise. Now Dr. Mozayeni and Providence Eye & Laser Specialists are proud to be the first to offer Allegretto IntraLASIK.
The currently FDA approved "wavefront guided" lasers are VISX (CustomVue), Bausch & Lomb (Zyoptix), and LadarVision (Custom Cornea). All of these are brand names of the same technology. To learn about the differences in these lasers click here. All of these lasers also reshape the cornea the same way; by reshaping the middle of the cornea differently than the edges. Although this approach works well for many people, it may not be ideal for everyone. Sometimes it can lead to less than ideal quality of vision including such things as halos, glare, and ghosting of vision.
The Allegretto laser has been used worldwide for some time and has been FDA approved in the USA since late 2003. It is the number one selling laser worldwide at this time, and is available at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists in Charlotte - the first to offer this technology in the region. Dr. Mozayeni is the first and only one to currently offer Allegretto IntraLASIK in the Charlotte region.
